I am taking my 76 yr. old father to see The Masters golf tournament and am wondering what are the biggest issues I’ll have to deal with. I’ve already got a hotel, tickets, and a car. What do I need to know? Anyone been there and have advice?

if i were you, i wouldn’t drive, they have buses that will take people to the tournament because it is a pain in the ass to try to park

What to use to hit tennis balls far, and very accurate. Anything but golf clubs – for a "tennis scramble"

Posted in golf scramble  by admin

we are drilling holes in a frozen lake and having a 4 man scramble to get tennis balls into the holes. We can use anything BUT golf clubs – what will be the best way to hit tennis balls far and accurate. ex.) tennis racket, baseball bat, hockey stick…. help me out with my best option! Thanks!

Tennis rackets off course! Use a over-sized racket with loose strings to hit it far with not much accuracy.
If there was any way to hit a tennis ball harder and more accurate, tennis players would have used that.

Hitting tennis balls with golf clubs doesn’t make them go far.
Are you allowed to pick the balls up and them hit them?

There is no thing like a "cricket stick"

What is the difference between a golf outing and a golf tournament?

Posted in golf outing  by admin
February 7th, 2010

I was just wondering.

A tournament is an official event with strict rules of golf are in forced. That’s were the big pressure comes from. An outing is less formal and could range from you and a friend going out to play up to a large group of co-workers or friends with your own ground rules if you all agree. If you don’t all agree then the rule book should reign. Either way works so just enjoy it. Your not on tv or paying the rent. Remember the game of golf is 50% physical and 90% mental.

where does the golfing term "mulligan" originate from?

Posted in golf mulligan  by admin
February 7th, 2010

There is considerable debate about this topic, to say the least. There are several clubs and several people who have staked claims about the origin of the term ‘mulligan.’

The story most widely accepted focuses on a gentleman named David Mulligan who played at the St. Lambert CC in Montreal, Canada during the 1920s. There are several versions of the David Mulligan story.

Mr. Mulligan was a hotelier in the first half of the century, a part-owner and manager of the Biltmore Hotel in New York City, as well as several large Canadian hotels. One story says that the first mulligan was an impulsive sort of event – that one day Mulligan hit a very long drive off the first tee, just not straight, and acting on impulse re-teed and hit again. His partners found it all amusing, and decided that the shot that Mulligan himself called a ‘correction shot’ deserved a better named, so they called it a ‘mulligan.’

Story two: Mulligan played regularly with a group of friends at St. Lambert, and in the morning he drove to pick up his golfing buddies. The road into the club was reportedly bumpy and windy and just sort of generally poor, with bridge of bumpy railroad ties. An extra shot was allotted to Mulligan, the driver of the car, on the first tee because he was jumpy and shaking from the difficult drive.

Story three: this story again identified a specific moment, citing a day when David Mulligan showed up late to the course, having scrambled to get out of bed late and get dressed and get to the course on time. He was frazzled on the first tee, hit a poor shot, and re-teed.

Another version of the ‘mulligan’ story comes from the Essex Fells CC in N.J. This story is one of the latest, and may therefore be less credible. According to this version, the term was named after a locker room attendant at the club named John A. ‘Buddy’ Mulligan, who worked at the club during the 1930s and was known for replaying shots, particularly on the first tee.

What is proper outfit to wear for a female attending a PGA Golf event in Orlando?

As I’m not a female, I have no idea on the outfit part, but I HIGHLY recommend you leave the "cute" shoes @ home (heels) and wear some running shoes as unless you’re @ the hopsitality area all day, you’ll be walking alot more than you’d think.

Golf etiquette on the green?

Posted in golf etiquette  by admin
February 7th, 2010

In golf, if you are playing as a foursome, how do you know if it is your turn on the green? I need this for a project, so the first one with the right answer gets the BEST ANSWER honor.

The player who is furthest away from the hole, no matter what surface they are on, always has the "honor:, meaning that it’s their turn. When putting, after a player attempts his first putt, he can choose to finish, or remark his ball and wait for his next turn. In fourball match play, if it is your turn to go, you can have your partner putt his ball (it’s your teams turn), even if he is the closest person to the hole.
Usually, if you have putted your first, and you would have to stand in the line of your partner or opponent in order to finish, it’s always good etiquette to mark your ball, and let them go before you finish.

What are some good foam or plastic golf balls that will simulate a real golf ball the best?

Posted in golf ball  by admin
February 7th, 2010

Since winter is here, I’m going to be practicing my chipping in the basement. I want to get a foam or plastic or whatever kind of ball that simulates a real golf ball the best. Any ideas?

Cayman restricted flight range balls…..soft foam designed to travel half the distance of a regular ball yet still maintain all characteristics of a normal golf ball, these are actually what we had try outs with and practiced with on my Jr High golf team some 15 years ago.
