Lumpys “Scramble for Autism” Charity Golf Tournament
We are pleased to announce the 6th annual Lumpys Scramble for Autism presented by Mathis Brothers furniture. Our charity golf tournament benefits the Coachella Valley Autism Society of America (CVASA) on Friday, April 10th, 2009 and is hosted by PGA West Stadium and Nicklaus Tournament courses. Due to the overwhelming community support weve moved our charity event to the recently renovated 25,000 square foot PGA West Tournament Clubhouse and have doubled the field of golfers to 288. Our goal is to raise awareness and thousands of dollars for local families dealing with Autism. Last year we were pleased to raise and contribute $84,159.11.

How does one compute ones golf handicap?
My scores range from 95 to 105. I wanted to enter some seniors tournaments and wanted to find out if I had a chance to compete in twosomes and scrambles.

Best golf balls for the money?
I’m a weekly scramble player, and I’m more interested in distance than controll. However I’d like to find a relatively inexpensive ball thats really long but, also has a little feel. I dented the face on my Taylor Made 580 using Pennicle Golds. I don’t want to ruin my new driver.
Callaway. I’ve been golfing for about 5 years and have hit Top Flite, Pinnacle, Nike, some crap ball called Titanium, Slazenger, even Titelist (spelling?) ProV1 (which I didn’t like, especially for the price). Callaway HX Hots were the first Callaway ball I hit. They have great distance and a good feel around the green. Not bad for $24.99 a dozen. If you’re an Ebayer, you can get them for about $22 a dozen if you’re willing to buy 6 dozen at a time. Callaway Big Berthas are always a good choice too. Not sure on the price of those. If you want to stay really cheap, Callaway Warbirds are $19.99 a dozen. Less feel, but the same great distance. Once you get the desire for the better ball, HX Tours are excellent, save for the $39.99 a dozen price tag. Unless I find a ball that by itself drops my handicap into the single numbers, I’ll stick with Callaway for a long time. For now, I play Callaway Big Bertha and HX Hot.
The Alps After the Snow
The Alps do not lose any of their majesty when the snow is gone and there is much more to Verbier than just wintersports. There are over 400 kilometres of well-tended footpaths, allowing visitors to explore the mountains in summertime. Difficulty varies with the path you choose, so be sure to select the right one, then all you need worry about is taking in the stunning view. Climbers of all levels will find a route to challenge them, enhanced by beautiful views of the Rhône Valley. The Pierre Avoi sector has a number of routes and a dramatic setting, while the Val de Bagnes sector – a favourite schooling ground – boasts the pretty villages of Le Bourrot, Le Tsè des Barmes, Les Boutzes du Pleureur and Les Minis Boutzes
Adrenaline-junkies can make their way down steep mountain riverbeds, walking and swimming their way through rock pools and abseiling down mountainsides. Take guided treks into the mountains on horseback or lessons in an outdoor paddock. This is a great way to enjoy the alpine views. With an 18-hole approach and an 18-hole par 70 golf course, there is plenty of opportunity for golfing enthusiasts to indulge their passion.
Have some fun in the tree tops; this is a great one for kids and the young at heart. Ropes are built into the trees at Médran offering you the chance to scramble along monkey-style. An annual music extravaganza staged by Verbier Festival and Academy. This is your chance to experience an innovative celebration of young artistic talent as Fest’off stages daily free concerts and performances around Verbier. Expect an eclectic mix, as the festival aims to showcase the talent of a wide range of musicians. Bring on the jazz, the classical and the folk, and for a natural twist, enjoy it outdoors, as Fest’off organises cultural walks for the more energetic. The hills really are alive with the sound of music!

What score wins local golf tournaments and what kind of scores do college players shoot. div. 2 level?
I took up golf after high school. I have never been on a team or in a tournament other than a charity scramble. I shoot mid to high 70’s on local course. I was at driving range with my colleges golf team and they looked no better than me. I felt like my ball striking and placement was equal if not better than theirs. I just want to get someone’s opinion. I would like to start playing competively
The way most college teams are determined is through qualifying rounds . At our college, we had a 36 hole qualifier where the six players and two alternates were chosen . The alternates played when one of the team was unable to compete or may have had a streak of poor play. If you wish to play competitively, participate in the open tournaments within your state, try to qualify for any of the amateur events and gain some notoriety as a player. The next qualifying session is where you should attend.
