Golf scramble format, rotating ball if used subtracts a stroke?
I’m looking for the name, or exact rules for a Scramble format in which each team is given a colored ball. That ball is rotated between players after each shot, and if the colored ball lie is used each time, the team can subtract a stroke. So it has to be the shot chosen to play from each time someone hits it. It was fun when I played it once, as there may be a better ball out there, but you try the colored ball with the hopes of subtracting that stroke. Anyone heard of this format, or know what it’s called?
In the NorthEast it’s called Razz Ball. I’ve played it differently than you have. In our format the ball rotates to a different player in the foursome for every hole. That player plays only that ball on his razz ball holes and the team that plays the razz ball for the most holes wins whatever prize was established for razz ball. It’s almost always lost during the round but we actually shot a team 77 on razz ball. That’s a rarity. Razz ball is normally a tournament within the main tournament.
Any format where there’s a singular ball is tricky as most folks are usually very picky about their "pill"…I’ve never heard of this format, but I’m interested in what you find out as it sounds pretty cool…assuming you could tweak it a little to allow everybody to use their own ball someway or another.
