THE charity golf TOURNAMENT “MORE THAN A GAME” TO BENEFIT THE FIRST TEE OF AUSTIN. THESE ARE THE GOLF SWINGS ON HOLE NUMBER 7 AT THE HILLS COUNTRY CLUB OF LAKEWAY. WITH A FEW COMEDIC BARBS THROWN IN FOR GOOD MEASURE.
Duration : 0:9:59
I’m going to our school’s Prom/Summer Ball tonight, and need some help! I’m 18, but I’ve never been to a formal black tie event before.I got a free scholarship to a private school when I was 11, but I’ve never bothered to go to any of the formal occasions, primarily due to cost, and subliminally probably because I guess I didn’t want to look like a fool out of my depth…
But I just finished my last year here, so I was feeling slightly sentimental, and about a month ago a friend (now girlfriend) pretty much blackmailed me into getting a ticket and to ask her to go with me.
Now I’m panicking. I rented a tux/dinner jacket outfit;
My shirt has these ‘pointed’ collar ends; do these go over or behind the bow tie?
The shirt is also kind of…tentlike :/ I’m 6ft3 but have a slim build, and the shirt has massive width; any ideas how I can somehow keep it all stuffed tight around my back?
Do I do up the single button on my jacket?
Am I expected to bring anything for my date? (I’m meeting her at the golf club where it’s being held)
What actually happens during one of these events? I know we’re having a meal, but that’s all.
Will I be expected to dance? nb. I have two left feet, and she dances at international level!
What is normal to do following the event? She’s dropped many unsubtle hints at…nothing conclusive /sigh
Sorry for so many questions! Thanks a lot!
You should buy her a corsage at the florist – they can help you pick it out. You should always buy the girl a corsage when going to these types of events.
During the meal, depending on how formal it is, they may have several different types of cutlery. The best advice for that is to work your way from the outside in. The most outside fork is for salad, next one for the entree, etc – work your way in towards the plate.
Put your napkin in your lap, and never put your elbows on the table.
I cannot help you with the dressing part…I don’t know much about tuxes and how they fit, but I can tell you that it is optional for doing up the button on the jacket.
For the dancing, I don’t think it is required that you dance, if you don’t want to, don’t.
I hope this has helped a little.
My friend and i are arguing and i’m eager to know
From scratch? I’m guessing you’re looking at a minimum of $15 million. One of my courses (my club has three) is under renovations and we have a $1.5 million budget to do so. That figure is just for the reno. Now, my club isn’t exactly ritzy…actually, nowhere near that. Add fancy clubhouses, electric golf carts, administration, operating costs, legal fees, land surveys, the building of the course, designer fees, banquet hall-style food…that should come out to a lot of millions.
What is the proper was to react, if a player behind you hits the ball and it barely misses you. AND he doesn’t yell Fore as a warning. I played today and the guy in my flier took the other guys ball and stomped it into the ground. Is that right?
We were four players, and moving fast.
The group behind us, apparantly didn’t see us through the trees.
Thanks everyone for all your responses. I was very embarrased as to how the guy reacted. I told him so, and he said that it’s the normal thing to do. hah! Now I know better.
There could be some snags in all of this. The person teeing off has to wait until after the people in front hit their second shots. However, what happens if the people in front are on their third shots, but still aren’t 200 yards from the tee? Also, what if the guy just happened to have one of those "once in a lifetime" drives that even he wasn’t expecting?
There’s always two sides to every story. Before the guy in your group acted like a jack@ss, maybe everyone should have had a small chat. Would the guy have been truly apologetic, or a jerk? It’s always best to go into these situations with level heads. If he’s sorry, forgive and forget; if he’s a douche, report him. There’s no reason for stupidity- besides, stomping the ball doesn’t do anything; he can replace his ball. It just makes your group look like the bad guys.
I booked on the phone and it doesn’t say the price…LAME. I looked online and I got prices from 21-50$, I just wanted a somewhat cheap round of golf. Anyways I hope someone can please help me out there.
i typed in las positas golf course in web search and for resident is 33 non resident 36 plus 14 per rider cart so it would be 47 if ya live there 50 if ya don’t . Of course I’m assuming you’ll be riding .
Probably the only thing more difficult and frustrating than gaining a degree of proficiency at playing golf is trying to make a buck betting golf. As the PGA Tour tees it up for the start of another season this month, it’s a sober fact of betting that no matter how you slice it–into the rough, into the water, into the woods, beyond the hazard–earning a profit through golf betting may be the most absurdly arduous and unrewarding task facing a prospective sports bettor.
Consider that if you place a future book wager on a major tennis tournament where there are 128 entrants, such as Wimbledon or the US Open, your choice has to beat just seven players. The other 120 are eliminated by someone else.
The same thing happens in the NFL playoffs where a team need beat just three or four opponents to claim a Super Bowl championship. The NBA and Major League Baseball have similar formats, where most of the teams are eliminated by someone other than the eventual winner.
About the closest thing to golf is a NASCAR Nextel Cup race, where your driver has to beat 42 other competitors.
But a typical golf tournament features about 150 players, meaning the man on whom you placed your wager, has to beat every one of them.
Given those overwhelming odds, then, why play?
The answer, of course, is because the payoffs can be so large. For example, of the 48 regular season events on the 2006 PGA Tour, 17 of them were won by players returning a three digit reward to the bettor. An additional nine tournaments went to players whose odds ranged from 40/1 to 80/1.
The list of bountiful winners is headed by J.B. Holmes, who captured the FBR Open, Feb. 5, and Chris Couch, who won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, April 30, each at odds of 250/1.
Kirk Triplett (Chrysler Classic of Tucson, Feb. 26); Aaron Baddeley (MCI Heritage, April 16); Brett Wetterich (Byron Nelson Championship, May 14); Ben Curtis (Booz Allen Classic, June 25 and 84 Lumber Classic, Sept. 17); Dean Wilson (The International, Aug. 13); and Eric Axley (Valero Texas Open, Sept. 24), all scored at odds of 150/1.
Last year’s winners at 125/1 included Rod Pampling (Bay Hill Invitational, March 19); Stephen Ames (The Players Championship, March 26); Jeff Maggert (FedEx St. Jude Classic, May 28); Carl Pettersson (the Memorial Tournament, June 4); J.J. Henry (Buick Championship, July 2); and Corey Pavin (US Bank Championship, July 30).
Nail just one of the above winners and you’re good for a free ride betting the PGA Tour every week for two to five years, depending on the size payout of that one winner.
So what’s the problem? Just bet a longshot each week.
Well, for starters, exactly how do you find a J.B. Holmes or a Chris Couch? When Holmes won the FBR Open there were 109 other golfers offered at odds of 100/1 or more, including 51 at odds of 250/1 or greater. In fact, if you were looking for a real longshot, there were 35 golfers who were offered at betting odds of 300/1 or more, including Tony Rohlik and Ian Leggatt, each at a life-changing 750/1. How in the name of Titleist could you isolate Holmes, who won in just his fourth PGA start?
It was a similar situation when Couch won in New Orleans. At that tournament, 26 other golfers were listed at 250/1 and 19 more were quoted at odds of 300/1 or greater.
Given the difficulty in isolating a longshot, maybe betting the favorite is the better way to go.
Well, no.
Favorites won just nine events last year and, with the exception of Phil Mickelson’s triumph at odds of 7/1 in the BellSouth Classic, April 2, the other eight favorites all were named Tiger Woods.
Woods, in fact, won eight of the 15 PGA Tour events he entered last year, meaning you could have realized a modest profit by betting on the world’s No. 1 player in each start. But for his career, Woods has won 54 of 200 tournaments, or just over one in every four tournaments he’s entered, so you’d have to average odds of 3/1 to break even.
That’s not going to happen.
So how do you win betting golf?
“I don’t know anyone who bets golf consistently and wins,” conceded a Nevada bookmaker who asked he not be identified. “It’s really a fool’s errand. The only way someone can win betting golf is to hit a longshot and never bet again.”
Yeah, right.

In my quest to find unusual destinations to visit in the Orlando area, I stumbled over a little town by the name of Mount Dora just about 45 minutes north of Orlando. I had read that it was a very picturesque small town located on a lake, and one of its main attractions was a scenic railway.
Mount Dora is only 27 miles or 43 km northwest of Orlando. It has an elevation of 184 feet above Lake Dora, which makes it Florida’s only “mountain top town”. Indeed the rolling hillsides and winding roads are a welcome unique feature in the generally flat topography of Florida.
Mount Dora’s history dates back to the 1800s. In 1846 Lake Dora was named for Dora Ann Drawdy. She and her husband homesteaded two miles south of Mount Dora. In 1880 the town’s first name was Royellou, named after the three children of Postmaster R. C. Tremain – Roy, Ella, and Louis.
Then in 1883 the town was renamed Mount Dora. Incorporated as a town in 1910 with 370 residents, the town now has a population of around 10,000 people. The first railroad service through Mount Dora began in 1887 and by 1915 there were two passenger trains daily in each direction. At one time citrus was the major industry in the area, with a great deal shipped from Mount Dora, while today Mount Dora’s major industry is tourism.
According to the Local Chamber of Commerce, the town also has a number of claims to fame, including:
- The Friendliest Small Town
- Best Antique Shopping
- The New England of the South
- The City of Parks
- Festival City
- Top 100 Great Towns of America
- Best Romantic Escape
- Money Magazine “Top Places to Live Today”
What drew me here personally was the ride on the the “Herbie Express”, which is part of the Inland Lakes Railway, located in Mount Dora and Eustis, Florida. The ride I went on is a one hour train ride between Mount Dora and Wooton Park in Tavares. We departed in a Pullman sleeper railcar originally built in 1949 that was later refunctioned as a commuter railcar.
The route initially takes you along Lake Dora and later continues inland past shopping malls, and suburban residences. A young conductor explained the local sights to us and kept us entertained. The Lake Eustis / Mount Dora Railway also features other train rides, such as the Lake County Champion, the Blue Swan Dinner Train, and the Magnolia Sun Lunch Train. The Lake County Champion round trip is 2 hours and 20 minutes, with an opportunity for a short visit in Eustis to enjoy Ferran Park and area shops.
The oldest structure in Mount Dora is the Lakeside Inn, established in 1883. It features a wrap-around porch, gingerbread trim and a steep roof crowned with a corner spire. The grounds are beautifully landscaped.
Many of the walking and trolley tours through this quaint town start at the former 1915 Atlantic Coast Line Depot, home of the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce since 1973. Mount Dora’s most renowned architectural jewel is the Donnelly House. This Queen Anne-style structure uses design elements characteristic of the Victorian Era.
The Donnelly House was constructed in 1893 by John Phillip Donnelly, the first mayor of Mount Dora. The home sits on Donnelly Street within walking distance from downtown Mount Dora. The Donnelly House is just one of the many restored 19th and early 20th century buildings in the Golden Triangle area.
This charming little town also features a whole host of specialty retailers and is one of Florida’s largest antiques and collectibles centers. Renninger’s Twin Markets is renowned for its antiques shopping. The town also features a large variety of gift shops, fashion boutiques, decorative art galleries, interesting cafes and restaurants as well as charming bed and breakfasts.
One of my favourite features of this town, which also refers to itself as “City of Parks”, are the many public green spaces by the water. Donnelly Park, located right downtown and dating back to 1924, offers free concerts and other civic events. The park also features a tennis court and shuffleboard facilities.
After my demanding stroll through Mount Dora’s winding streets I walked down to the waterfront to Evans Park, which is located across from the lighthouse. The view from the waterfront bench was magnificent and I relaxed on the bench as I soaked up the sunshine. The park is adjacent to the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club, one of the largest in the United States. Its 300 member association plays host to local and regional tournaments.
Simpson Cove and Grantham Point are adjacent to Palm Island Park and feature the only inland freshwater lighthouse in Florida. This lighthouse was built of bricks and donated by local residents. Gilbert Park features a public boat ramp, picnic area, croquet court and children’s playground along Alexander Creek.
Palm Island Park features a 1700 foot fresh water hiking trail and boardwalk through oak trees draped with Spanish moss. Other wildlife, including bald eagles, and local indidgenous plants can be admired here as well.
The City hosts many major annual events such as the popular “Mount Dora Arts Festival”. This event attracts over 150,000 people each year and has been ranked among the top art shows in the country. Other events include the Antique Boat Show, Antique Car Show, golf tournament, Bicycle Festival, Crafts Fair and Plant and Garden Fair.
While I was exploring this charming little town, my husband played golf at the Mount Dora Golf Association. He played a beautifully manicured full-size 18-hole course, and at $18 including cart, this outing was a real bargain. The Mount Dora area also offers a variety of other golf courses, including the Black Bear Golf Club, the Country Club of Mount Dora, Deer Island Golf Club, Eagle Dunes Golf Course, Heathrow Country Estates Redtail Golf Course, the Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort and the Pine Meadows Country Club.
I capped off my explorations with a delicious late afternoon ice cream on the patio of the Sunshine Mountain Bakery, soaking up the sun while waiting to hear about my husband’s golf adventures. Mount Dora is a great day trip from Orlando and we enjoyed our drive back through the countryside of rural Florida.

Are you looking for golf tips for every part of your golf game? If so, then you are in the right place. We are going to give you 3 golf tips on how to hit better drives, 3 golf tips on how to hit better irons and 3 golf tips on how to hit better chip shots.
3 Golf Tips on How to Hit Better Drives
Everyone is in love with the fact of trying to get as much distance as they can from their driver. Some players are even obsessed to the point, it hurts their scores. A test with tour players was done years ago on this subject. They had them hit their drive. If it was in the fairway, fine. If it was in the rough, they had them play that ball. In addition, they put in play another ball that was in the fairway but thirty yards behind their tee shot in the rough. Believe it or not, these players scored better from the fairway thirty yards behind the original ball in the rough! That proves how important hitting it in the fairway is for all of us. Here is how you can hit better drives:
1. Make sure your ball position is correct. Many amateurs play their driver to far forward in their stance in an attempt to help the ball in the air.
2. Use a full swing but only swing 80%. This means if a full swing is normally 100mph then you are looking to stay in balance and swing at 80mph.
3. Make sure that you have the correct shaft in your driver. Many players have pre-conceived ideas that they need to hit a certain flex shaft. I would make my decision more strictly based on the ball flight.
3 Golf Tips on How to Hit Better Irons
Many players do not believe that they can improve their iron play by slowing down and making sure they have the proper club in their hand. Remember the closer that you are able to hit your irons the shorter your putts will be and then you will look like a better putter! Improve how you hit your irons with these 3 tips:
1. As simple as it sounds most players do not know the average distance that they hit each golf club. The key word here is average. How long you hit your seven-iron one time (downhill and downwind) simply does not matter. I would rather brag about the low score I shot after the round than the long seven-iron that I hit on the eighth hole!
2. Take the time while you are on the golf course to find the yardage to the front and back of the green as well as the distance to the hole.
3. Choose the club that allows you to make a full swing. This takes away many variables that can go wrong during your swing.
3 Golf Tips on How to Improve Your Chip Shots
Improving your short game and your chip shots is the quickest way to lower your scores behind improving your putting. Many players do not practice it as much because it is not as glamorous as trying to bang out the long drives. Even the best players miss greens so if you cannot chip the ball around the green, you will not be able to ever score very well. The short game of golf is where you really need to practice, so check out the following 3 tips:
1. Any time that you can hit a low shit that runs the ball up to the hole as opposed to flying it all of the way there, do it. This gives you more room for error and percentage-wise you will get you closer to the hole for the next shot, unless you make the chip shot! Do not be scared to use an eight, seven or even a five iron to get the distance that you need.3
2. Hold your finish until the ball has stopped rolling. Use this time to monitor your balance and evaluate the shot.
3. Know without a doubt where you would like the ball to land. If you claim to have trouble visualizing shots then explain where you want to land it out loud. This will accomplish the same thing.
Implement these golf tips into your game and you will see your scores go down and you will have something to talk about in the locker room!

Planning a Chicago birthday party for a child or young adult is always a fun event to host. There are hundreds of birthday party ideas and themes available. You could host the event anywhere and the child is most likely going to have a great time. As we get older birthdays are not quite as exciting as they used to be and they’re sometimes even dreaded. Turning the big 30, 40, or even 50 isn’t always looked at as being a great thing so throwing a birthday event may be a great idea to lighten things up. Although some may not like this idea, most adults who reach their milestone birthdays are actually anticipating a big event.
When choosing to plan a Chicago birthday party event you may come up short with ideas and themes. Often times a lot of themes have been done before and you’d hate to have to imitate your friends. You’d like to host a party with a more adult theme as well and avoid any child themes. Finding these themes can be rather difficult and searching the internet you can often times come up short. This is why we’ve compiled a list of ideas that we’ve seen over the years while performing at adult Chicago birthday parties. Listed below are a few great ideas you may want to consider when planning your Chicago birthday party……..
1) The Teen Years. This theme is great for those who are celebrating an adult birthday. If they are celebrating their 50th birthday they were born in the 1950s so you might consider throwing a 1950s themed party. The invitation could read the guest of honor’s name and then it could say “is going back to the 50s”. Then you could encourage your guests to dress the part with bright red lipstick, cheap white canvas shoes, and even some funky shades. There are several 1950’s games you could play or you could opt into a trivia game coming up with questions that relate to the 1950s.
2) Genuine Antique Person. This theme can be looked at as more of a jest for someone in their older ages. We’ve seen it a few times for a few Chicago 50th birthday parties. The concept behind this theme is to create an old country western style theme. The ideas for decorations are only limited by your imagination. You may choose to use old rusty wheelbarrows to scatter throughout the room and use them as ice coolers. You could buy small rusted metal pails and fill them with flowers to use as centerpieces. You’ll most likely opt for a lot of candles and antique signs. At this event you could have everyone dress in old antique western cloths or on their invitation invite each person to come as a different villager from an old town (ex: farmer, sheriff, bandit, etc).
3) Choose their Favorite. This theme is a little vaguer than the other themes. You’ll want to find the person of honor’s favorite thing to do or something they love and make that into a theme. An example would if a person loves to fish. You could then take that activity and create an entire theme around fishing. You could also use the idea of golfing. You could encourage everyone to come in their golf apparel and to bring their putters. You’ll want to pick something that the guest of honor will enjoy and go with it. The possibilities are endless.
4) Imitation Parties. This theme is when all of your guests are invited to the birthday party and encouraged to imitate the birthday boy or girl. This can be great fun for your guests as they arrive at the birthday party and it’ll create lots of laughter. At this party you could create a banner and invite your guests to sign the banner and tell a funny story. Then later in the evening you could roast the person with the banner. It’ll create lots of laughter and good times!
5) In Memory of. This theme isn’t for the faint of heart. As a joke you could theme your birthday party as a memorial party. Invite the guests to arrive in all black and invite them to write funny eulogies about the guest of honor. It may seem to be a weird them, but we’ve seen it done a couple times and if done properly it can be hilarious.
6) This is your Life. Instead of choosing to do an “over the hill” birthday party you may want to try hosting a “This is your Life Party”. At this type of event you can send a questionnaire out with your invitation and ask your guests to complete it with their RSVP. You can then take these answers from the questionnaire and choose how to present them. Some have chosen to do a slideshow while others have made up a game show asking questions to the guests and creating a game out of it. You may even choose to roast the guest of honor. Some sample questions could be…
7) Ice Cream Party. This theme is for all the sweet tooths. On the invitation you’ll want to invite all the guests to bring their favorite ice cream toppers and their favorite ideas on how to build the perfect sundaes and banana splits. When everyone arrives you can surprise your guest of honor with the biggest and craziest bowl of ice cream. Another idea would be to purchase a large gutter section from a home improvement store and serve the ice cream varieties in a trough style.
Black and White. With this theme you’ll encourage all the guests to dress in black and then have your guest of honor dressed in white (or vice versa). It makes for a fun formal night and the guest of honor is almost always recognized by their different apparel. You can also grab some great pictures!
These are just a few fun ideas you may want to consider when planning your Chicago Birthday party event. Not all of these themes may work for your guest of honor. You’ll want to determine their personality and personal interests and go from there.
